This development has finally moved the needle for gender equality in the South American nation. But what does it say about gender equality in the country on a whole? Its notable that Mexico achieved 50% female representation in its national parliament in 2024, making it one of the six countries worldwide to achieve such high proportion of women representatives in the parliament. Unfortunately, equal progress has not been made in terms of women's representation in leadership positions in the country's business sector. A McKinsey & Company study from 2022 found that Mexico only had one in ten women CEOs. The number is a far cry from women's representation in the parliament. It is critical for any country's holistic development to promote women into leadership roles. More women at the top are not just an ethical imperative, but also impacts businesses positively.
