Fatima Qasimi: Reframing Corporate Finance through Advisory Precision

CEO

Leaders across the GCC are playing a pivotal role in shaping the region’s economic future through strategic vision, financial expertise, and strong institutional leadership. Their efforts are not only strengthening regional financial ecosystems but also reinforcing global investor confidence.

Notably, women leaders are increasingly at the forefront of this transformation, driving innovation, resilience, and inclusive growth across the financial landscape. Among these influential figures is Fatima Qasimi, CEO of Axios Financial Consultancy, whose career reflects both adaptability and forward-thinking leadership.

Fatima began her professional journey in 1995 within the UAE’s banking sector. At the time, most UAE national graduates entering finance started in retail banking, and she followed a similar path by joining a rotational program that offered exposure to multiple banking functions.

This early experience provided her with a comprehensive understanding of how the banking ecosystem operates as an integrated whole.

In the initial phase of her career, she served as a branch manager, spending nearly three years in retail banking. While this role offered valuable insights and hands-on experience, she soon recognized that her true interests lay in corporate and institutional banking.

Driven by this realization, she pivoted toward working with large-scale corporate clients and institutions. This strategic shift became a defining moment in her career, shaping her professional trajectory and positioning her as a prominent leader in the region’s financial sector. Let’s dive in to know more.

I believe in aligning professional ambition with personal responsibilities while maintaining focus on family, health, and long term values

Given the diverse leadership roles across prominent financial institutions, what key areas of expertise have you developed within the banking sector?

Over the years, I have built expertise across several areas of banking. My core specialization is in corporate and institutional banking, where I worked closely with large organizations to manage complex financial requirements. I also developed strong capabilities in financial and operational risk management while serving in senior roles that required a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks.

In addition, I gained considerable exposure to regulatory compliance through regular interaction with regulators such as the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates. I also developed a strong expertise in Islamic finance, leading the Islamic banking window of a major UAE banking group and later serving as CEO of the Islamic banking arm at First Abu Dhabi Bank, which strengthened my understanding of both conventional and Sharia compliant banking models.

Introduce us to Axios Financial Consultancy. What key responsibilities do you shoulder as the company’s CEO?

Axios Financial Consultancy was established after more than two decades of my experience in the banking sector, where I developed strong industry knowledge, built an extensive professional network, and gained deep insight into client needs and regulatory frameworks. After 23 years in banking, I decided to leverage this experience independently by launching my own financial consultancy firm.

The firm was created to address the growing demand for specialized advisory services, particularly in restructuring and strategic financial guidance. Earlier, I served as Group Head of Restructuring at a leading UAE bank, managing complex cases across the UAE, India, the UK, and other markets.

As CEO, I focus on setting the firm’s strategic direction, building a capable leadership team, strengthening client relationships, and maintaining a reputation for professionalism and trust.

What are your current focus areas in terms of driving growth for Axios Financial Consultancy?

My current focus is on building and nurturing a strong team, as people remain the foundation of any successful organization. The team at Axios Financial Consultancy comes from strong banking backgrounds, and collectively we bring nearly 80 to 90 years of industry experience, enabling us to address complex client challenges with depth and confidence.

Another key priority is maintaining strong and long term client relationships, even with clients where there may not be active engagements at the moment. I also place significant emphasis on strengthening the firm’s reputation and credibility in the market, ensuring that trust, professionalism, and consistent delivery of high quality advisory services remain central to our growth.

Looking back on your journey so far, what key milestones and achievements are you most proud of? What has been your personal leadership philosophy or success mantra?

Throughout my career, several milestones have shaped my professional journey. One of the achievements I value most is overcoming cultural and professional barriers often faced by women in leadership. As an Emirati woman and a mother of five, balancing family life with a demanding career required resilience and commitment.

In an industry where expertise historically came from professionals outside the UAE, earning recognition as a national leader and reaching senior roles in major banks were significant milestones. Eventually becoming the CEO of the Islamic banking arm at First Abu Dhabi Bank was another defining moment.

My leadership philosophy is rooted in balance. I believe in aligning professional ambition with personal responsibilities while maintaining focus on family, health, and long term values.

How do you foresee GCC’s banking landscape evolving in the near future? Which trends will define the industry’s future?

The banking sector across the GCC is undergoing rapid transformation, and this momentum is expected to accelerate over the next decade. One of the most significant trends shaping the future will be the growing role of artificial intelligence in areas such as fraud detection, credit assessment, compliance monitoring, and operational efficiency.

At the same time, digital banking and fintech integration will continue to reshape how financial services are delivered. As customer expectations shift toward faster and more seamless digital experiences, banks will need to adapt accordingly. Overall, technology driven innovation will define the sector’s future.
