  • Applications open till May 15

The African Academy for Women in Political Leadership has recently unveiled a program which will select 30 remarkable women with great leadership potentials, a deep sense of public service and a vision of transforming government in Africa to be more open and welcoming.

This program aims at arming the participants with the knowledge, skills and the network to effectively navigate political systems and emerge as leaders. It highlights that women are still underrepresented in political leadership roles throughout the continent and that measures should be taken to accelerate achieving gender equality in government. Through working alongside experts, legislators, and other emergent leaders from different parts of Africa, participants may have a comprehensive and profound learning experience.

Main objectives of the program include increasing the participation of women in politics and decision-making processes, empowering new leaders to develop their leadership, governance and policy skills, deepening the formation of new leaders' networks, and fostering the existence of inclusive political systems. Selected individuals will undergo the most comprehensive leadership training, be mentored by seasoned politicians and policymakers, have opportunities to connect with other Africans and receive practical political entrepreneurship tips. Participating in such a high-profile initiative at the continental level also brings the participants public exposure and acclaim.

The program targets African women seeking to enter or advance in political leadership roles. Candidates must either have a leadership role in public service, government, or advocacy or be capable of it. Furthermore, they should be passionately committed to gender equality, possess good communication and teamwork skills, and have a clear strategy for political transformation in their communities or countries.

Interested candidates must submit their applications by May 15, 2026. They are advised to thoroughly verify their application details to ensure accuracy and alignment with their experience and aspirations.
