CCWE & CPWCIC Launches FAME Project in Sri Lanka's Central Province

Recently, the Ceylon Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs (CCWE) has launched the FAME Project alongside Central Province Women’s Chamber of Small Industries and Commerce (CPWCIC) in Sri Lanka’s Central Province on May 23.

The event was held at the Royal Kandyan Hotel in Peradeniya, Kandy. It was a special occasion where important guests, community leaders, and partners gathered, all eager to support women's enablement and promote overall economic progress.

French Ambassador to Sri Lanka Rémi Lambert attended and spoke inspiring words about France’s ongoing efforts to encourage sustainable growth in South Asia. He emphasized how international cooperation can help achieve gender equality and praised the work of CCWE and CPWCIC in driving positive social change.

He also noted that initiatives like FAME show what communities can accomplish when working together, especially in supporting women entrepreneurs and making them more resilient.

The Central Province Governor, Professor Sarath B.S. Abayakoon, joined us as the Chief Guest and expressed his strong support for the FAME Project. During his speech, he emphasized how important women entrepreneurs are for the future of the region’s economy and society.

He welcomed efforts that equip women with the tools, resources, and connections they need to thrive. He also thanked the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and CCWE for their ongoing dedication to enabling women in the Central Province through meaningful, long-term partnerships.

CCWE Co-Founder and Chairperson Shirley Jayawardena looked back on the chamber’s journey working with international partners like AFD, the South Asian Women Development Forum (SAWDF), and Geres.

She shared how these collaborations have helped create innovative programs focused on sustainability, which support women-led businesses and local communities. On behalf of the chamber, she genuinely appreciated AFD’s steady support in promoting women’s economic participation across Sri Lanka.
