The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a division of the World Bank Group, and Garanti BBVA Romania have signed a new €40 million financing deal with the goal of empowering women-owned enterprises throughout Romania. The five-year senior unsecured loan will supply crucial funds to assist women-led micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (W-MSMEs).
By allocating funds to businesses where women are heavily involved in ownership and leadership, Garanti BBVA Romania demonstrates its continued dedication to financial inclusion through this renewed partnership.
"We consider supporting women-owned businesses to be a strategic priority," stated Mustafa Tiftikcioğlu, CEO of Garanti BBVA Romania. "We are pleased to expand our partnership with IFC and support Romania's economic viability by providing women entrepreneurs with dependable partnerships and customized financial solutions."
IFC's Senior Country Manager for Southeastern Europe, Marcelo Castellanos, further stated: One of the main goals of IFC's work in Romania is to increase women's financial access. This investment solidifies our long-term partnership with Garanti BBVA and is our first in the nation exclusively targeted at women-led businesses.
In recent years, Garanti BBVA has secured almost €105 million in funding from global organizations, of which €82.5 million has come from the IFC, with a significant portion of that funding going towards assisting women in business.
The National Trade Register Office (ONRC) reports that women currently make up over 36% of company ownership structures in over 620,000 operating Romanian businesses, either as shareholders or partners. Furthermore, approximately 187,000 women, or 40 percent of all such individuals, are either sole proprietors or employees of family businesses.
The new financing deal strengthens the 2012 partnership between Garanti BBVA and IFC and reaffirms both organizations' dedication to supporting inclusive growth and women's entrepreneurship in Romania.
