Jane Barrett has been appointed Head of Product, Reuters. Reuters’ President, Paul Bascobert, officially appointed her to the post through an internal announcement issued on Tuesday. Jane will assume the new duties immediately and continue to be part of the Reuters Executive Committee.

With two years of experience as the Head of AI Strategy at the organization, she has contributed significantly towards ensuring the adoption of AI in the organization through her various projects.

Expressing her excitement about this promotion on LinkedIn, she noted“When I took on the job of Head of AI Strategy, my boss and I debated how long we would need Heads of AI before it just became ‘what we all do’. I bet on three years, but it turns out it was two!”

During her career, Jane has been at the helm of many transformational efforts. She played a critical role in the conception of Reuters Insider, which is one of the pioneering financial video services in the industry, after which she served in various leadership capacities like Global Head of Multimedia and Global Editor for Media News Strategy.

Bringing in her expertise, she managed to revolutionize the newsroom while simultaneously advancing Reuters’ digital and multimedia services.

  • AI leadership integrated into Reuters’ core product and growth strategy

With media companies rapidly adopting AI technologies, Reuters remains one of the companies leading in embracing technological innovations.

“It’s an amazing time to be serving audiences and clients in new and old ways. Let’s go build the future together!” Jane added.

Paul shared “Jane brings more than 25 years of newsroom experience as a journalist and editorial leader, with a deep understanding of our clients and business. She has been instrumental in advancing AI-driven ways of working and shaping the vision for Reuters’ AI-powered products. Having worked closely with our product teams and leadership, she is exceptionally well-positioned to lead the future of our product strategy.”

The appointment represents yet another step towards the integration of cutting-edge technologies into the core activities of the company. As the leader in the field of media who introduced the AI leader position early in the company’s development, Reuters now proceeds to implement its next strategic move by integrating AI further with products and growth.

Jane joined Reuters in 1999 right after graduating from university and started building a successful international career working in various cities such as London, Rome, Milan, and Madrid. Transitioning from being a journalist to a corporate leader, she remained true to innovation, engagement, and multimedia content creation.

Over the years, she made significant contribution to the implementation of various projects designed to enhance the company’s online presence.

As more of artificial intelligence is implemented within the Reuters' business operations, the organization announced that the most successful teams working with the AI strategy will eventually be taken over by other managers within different departments. Such a move reflects a logical transition for the organization, whereby AI evolves from being a strategic effort into a feature implemented into all aspects of the business process.
