Triodos Investment Management is pleased to announce that as of June 1, 2026, Marie Heydenreich will serve as the new Fund Manager of the Hivos-Triodos Fonds. Heydennich's extensive international network and expertise in impact investing, fund management and SME finance come from over 13 years in the sector.

As a new hire, Heydenreich will be responsible for the management and the strategic development of Hivos-Triodos Fonds, a blended finance fund focusing on sustainable development, climate resilience and economic inclusion in emerging markets. Her appointment follows a recent surge in the fund's work to tackle urgent global issues like climate change, access to energy and sustainable agriculture.

Prior to entering into Triodos Investment Management, Heydenreich worked with Triple Jump in Africa, in both Nairobi and Amsterdam on two access-to-energy projects. Her efforts were mainly directed towards enhancing access to clean, affordable energy access to underserved communities across the continent.

Before that, she was co-manager of a €400 million fund-of-funds mandate focused on investments in inclusive businesses in frontier markets, bringing capital to businesses that are making a positive social impact as well as a financial return.

Key Highlights:

  • Marie Heydenreich appointed Fund Manager of Hivos-Triodos Fonds
  • Fund focuses on renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience
  • €30 million investment boosted fund assets to €95 million

Her career has revolved around sustainable development and impact-investing. Thanks to his hands-on experience in emerging markets and his understanding of the challenges facing small and medium-sized enterprises, Heydenreich will be able to contribute significantly to the agenda of Hivos-Triodos Fonds.

Commenting on her appointment, Heydenreich said, “Triodos IM’s mission to build a sustainable, fair, and inclusive society deeply aligns with my values. As Fund Manager of Hivos-Triodos Fonds, I’m excited to help expand energy access, strengthen sustainable food systems, and support people affected by climate change across emerging markets.”

Heydenreich has a Master of Science (MSc) in Finance in Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in International Economics from the University of Tübingen. Her background in school and her expertise in the sector puts her in an ideal position to drive the fund's next stage of growth.

Hivos-Triodos Fonds was founded in 1994 as a public-private partnership between Hivos as a Dutch development organization and Triodos Bank. The fund was established to enable financing of innovative enterprises that advance social and environmental change, and offer economic opportunities for marginalized groups.

The fund is a blended finance vehicle that targets climate change and climate change impacts, enhances livelihoods and addresses inequality among low-income groups and vulnerable populations—including women and youth. The fund will focus on funding projects in the renewable energy and sustainable agriculture sectors, with the goal of driving the transition to a more sustainable and inclusive economy.

Hivos-Triodos Fonds was also provided with a major investment of €30 million in 2025 from FMO and OeEB, which will further enhance the development impact that it has. This investment further enabled the fund to invest in businesses that promote sustainable social and economic development in developing countries by increasing the assets under its management to €95 million.

Under Marie Heydenreich's leadership, Hivos-Triodos Fonds can continue to make a lasting positive impact and to help innovative businesses achieve a more sustainable and equitable future.
