Premiere Academy Students Join Young Women Leadership Conference

Premiere Academy, Abuja, sent five students to the 2026 Young Women Leadership Conference (YWLC), which attracted over 3,000 young women, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders to Abuja for the annual leadership event.

The conference was organized by Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC) under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in Nigeria, with the theme of enhancing the leadership capacity of young women of Nigeria, and preparing them for a greater role in the development of Nigeria.

Under the theme “Innovate, Influence, Impact: Accelerating Young Women's Roles in National Development”, the 2026 edition of the conference focused on the roles of leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation, and civic engagement in the empowerment of women to contribute to Nigeria's development.

Onuigbo Munachimso, Abraham Angel, Edet Toyo, Komo Jaina and Ubunama Chikanyima of Premiere Academy represented the school at the event. Mrs. Omegie Alex-Akinnusi, the Chairman of the Girl-Child Committee of the school led the delegation.

Alex-Akinnusi said that the program gave great exposure to leadership development and nation-building opportunities for the students. The experience will help to instill confidence among youth women to become innovative leaders and make positive contributions to the society, she added.

She said the conference has expanded the scope of leadership and nation-building of the girls and that the school will do everything to nurture young women that will innovate, lead with integrity and make meaningful contributions to Nigeria's development.

The conference was designed to provide participants with practical skills and advice to help them excel in their careers, whether in leadership, business, technology or public service, through discussions and mentoring sessions. Nationally, the event engaged high-level government leaders, business representatives and stakeholders to champion and support women's representation in various industries.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hajia Hadiza Bala Usman, while delivering the keynote address, reminded young women of the importance of engaging actively in governance and decision making roles while embodying good ethics in their leadership.

Hon. was a notable speaker and mentor among the others. The Comptrollers included were Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Director-General, Dr. Charles Odii, National Council on Women Society, National Secretary, Princess Edna Azura and Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, Dr. Titilope Gbadamosi.

The conference was attended by the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by Civic Values and Democracy Director, Dr Olukemi Afolayan.

The organizers say that the selected participants will be provided with access to post-conference business development training and grant-supported programs to assist and foster entrepreneurial ideas and scale up business among youth women.

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development said the Young Women Leadership Conference is in line with the government's policy to create an enabling environment for young Nigerian women to be active players in achieving sustainable economic and social development.

Stakeholders work towards enhancing opportunities for young women to develop leadership skills, gain mentorship and directly engage in shaping the future of Nigeria through programs like YWLC.
