Highlighting the strategic role of women in Europe, Rositsa Kirova, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Citizen Engagement, emphasized that European unity, peace, and progress are made possible by the resilience and leadership of women—both on the frontlines and in political areas. Speaking at the ‘Women and Europe’ forum in Athens, organized by European Public Law Organization (EPLO) Circular Economy and Climate Institute, she underscored the pivotal influence of European women in driving resilience and political achievement.
Driving policy toward inclusive leadership, Rosita emphasized that the European Union has made notable strides in codifying gender equality, introducing policies designed to bridge the gender pay gap and foster equitable access to senior economic positions through updated regulatory measures.
"In recent years, the European Union has increasingly developed as an organisation where women are seen as its architects. In 2024, women made up 33.4% of national parliaments in the EU, up from 27.8% in 2014. In the European Parliament, women's representation has reached an even higher level, 39.9%," Rositsa said.
Rositsa noted that women are playing a vital role in reshaping the European Union’s energy framework, particularly through initiatives supporting the green transition and clean energy adoption. According to her, broadening European Union’s membership to include Western Balkans is not just a political move, but a strategic investment in the resilience of the Union’s border.
Simultaneously, European Union is actively working to achieve greater self-sufficiency in key industries, aiming to mitigate reliance on non-EU actors in defence system, energy infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
