San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has named Eva Cheong as its new Chief Operating Officer, making her the first woman to serve in the role in the airport’s history.

Eva will oversee a wide range of SFO’s operations, including airside and landside activities, AirTrain, safety and security, the Airport Integrated Operations Center, the 911 dispatch center, guest care, facilities, and the SFO Museum.

Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet said, “I am excited to announce Eva as SFO’s new Chief Operating Officer. Eva brings a deep operational expertise in our industry, combined with a genuine commitment to our people and our mission, and I look forward to her contributions in this role.”

Eva came to SFO in 2012 after a successful career at Delta Airlines in various operational leadership roles.

Prior to this, she served as Field Director for the California Region with seven airports throughout the state, including all three airports in the Bay Area at Delta.

Key Highlights:

  • Eva Cheong has become SFO’s first female Chief Operating Officer
  • She will oversee key airport operations and passenger services
  • She brings extensive aviation experience from Delta and SFO

Eva has experience in airport operations and leadership to her new role at SFO. As COO, she oversees numerous operational and customer-facing roles at the airport, such as facilities, safety and security, guest care and the SFO Museum. Eva is also the first female Chief Operating Officer for SFO.

Eva will also be responsible for Airport Integrated Operations Center and 911 dispatch center along with AirTrain and the airport's airside and landside operations as part of her duties.

The move will combine Eva's hands-on perspective with skills she gained during her many years at SFO, beginning in 2012. Her Delta experience encompassed management from various California airports reflecting the experience across the State's aviation system.

As the airport continues to provide SFO with its airside and landside activities, customer services, facilities, safety and security, and other airport-wide functions, Eva will now be responsible for the airport's operational functions.

Eva's appointment marks another achievement in her career in airport operations, which has seen her move on to leadership roles in both the airline and airport sectors. Prior to joining SFO, she worked for several years with Delta Airlines in operational leadership positions. She served as Field Director for Delta's California Region, and was in charge of operations at seven airports, including the three airports in the Bay Area.

Eva has a background of experience in operational management in various aviation facilities, both in the airline and airport sector. The promotion of her as SFO's first female Chief Operating Officer is a major advancement in aviation management for women.
