The United States ranks first globally in funding for women-led startups, with India second, says a recent report by Traxcn Technologies Limited, an Indian tech startup research and analytics firm. It notes that women-led tech firms globally raised $29.6 billion in 2024, with San Francisco topping city-wise funding at $9.4 billion.
The report mentions that over 69,000 women-funded tech companies collectively raised USD 309 billion in funding in the global tech sector. However, an 11 per cent decline from $33.1 billion in 2023 and a 21 per cent drop from 2022 has been recorded. Despite this, 45 funding rounds reached $100 million, a 15 per cent increase from 2023, but a drop of 40 per cent from 2022.
Enterprise Applications, Life Sciences, and Fintech sectors saw the highest number of women-led tech startups in 2024, with Life Sciences companies raising $4.4 billion in 2024, a 6 per cent drop from 2023, and FinTech at $3.44 billion funding in 2024, a 10 per cent drop from 2023, respectively.
Additionally, it was also noted that in 2024, 14 new women-led unicorns made a strong presence, marking a 134 per cent increase compared to 6 unicorns in 2023. Meanwhile, the number of acquisitions dropped significantly, 16 in 2024, 25 in 2023, 36 in 2022, and 45 in 2021.
The U.S. led in funding for women-led startups in 2024, with San Francisco at $9.4 billion, New York City at $1.9 billion, and London at $1.8 billion leading city-wise in 2024. Governments and the U.S. Small Business Administration support these initiatives.
