Women in ETFs Hosts Third WE South Event in Miami

Women in ETFs hosted the third edition of its regional meeting, WE South | Offshore 360: The Macro View, live in Miami.

It assembles professionals from the ETF industry and the offshore business with the purpose of discussing key economic trends and their impact on the market. The day was filled with insights from experts in the fields of economics, strategy, and innovation in exchange-traded funds.

This StoneX-sponsored event took place on November 19 at the JW Marriott Marquis, Miami. The agenda was focused on the macroeconomic landscape and its direct implications for portfolio construction.

Representing the South Chapter of Women in ETFs were Jan Fredericks, Co-Head of Membership, and Estefanía Gorman, Secretary and Co-Head of Mentorship. Kathryn Rooney Vera, Chief Market Strategist at StoneX, acted as Master of Ceremonies, joined by Christian Prugue, Managing Director and Co-Head of LatAm Securities.

The first panel, “The Economy Unfiltered: A Debate on the Global Forces Shaping the Markets,” featured Kathryn and Jonathan Levin, Markets Columnist at Bloomberg. They discussed global interest rates, the U.S. labor market, and the impact of rising retail trading.

Key drivers underpinning the market, including inflation, growth, interest rate expectations, and changing investor risk preferences, were examined by the panelists.

Artificial intelligence and its consequences for the economy and financial markets were also underlined, along with considerations for strategic gold holdings in portfolios.

The panel, which was titled "Market Pulse: Trends, Perception and Strategic Alignment" comprised of April Reppy Suydam- Head of Latin America Distribution, First Trust; and Brad Smith-CFA Analyst and Head of ETF Strategy Americas, Invesco; was moderated by Estefania Gorman, Director Client Success, Scala Capital. 

The panel delved into trends emerging in the ETF space including artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, ETF conversion from passive to active strategies, and how to make advisors and clients more comfortable using derivatives and options.

After the conclusion of the panel, participants enjoyed a curated tasting of chocolate and wine led by Ricardo Trillo, from Cao Chocolates, who provided guests with a South American Chocolate tasting experience paired with wines that complement those chocolates.

The Women In ETFs South Chapter serves Women, across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina.

Beyond providing insight into the ETF marketplace, this event highlighted their commitment to connecting, supporting and inspiring those involved with the ETF industry through many different avenues, including networking and professional development opportunities.
