  • The Philippines is the world’s most disaster-risk-prone country, according to the 2025 World Risk Index
  • Against this More than 30 women-led and women-targeting social enterprises will meet in Makati City

In the World Risk Index, shows that in terms of the increasing costs related to the effects of climate change and more frequent climate disasters, the Philippines are considered the most dangerous place to be based on that index.

More than 30 social women enterprises will hold an event on January 30, 2026 in Makati to exhibit what each social enterprise from all around the country is doing to develop sustainable ways of using renewable energy or creating circular economies, while also creating sustainable livelihoods for local populations.

Social enterprises, as organizations that are generated by missions, have many obstacles when attempting to raise money and find customers, making it very difficult to develop quickly enough to meet the growing demand for services.

The Fair Futures Venture Showcase intends to bring together entrepreneurs, impact investors, microfinance institutions, development partners, and other leaders so that more communities around the world can enjoy local sustainable solutions through improved financing that will help replace fossil fuels with clean energy, resulting in a sustainable and inclusive global economy.

Jonas Gregory Perez, the national programme officer of UN Women, said, "Through our investments in women-led and gender-inclusive businesses, we open the way to clean technologies, sustainable livelihoods, and a greener economy that leaves no one behind. This is how we translate ambition into action and action into resilience."

Apart from the entrepreneurs' sessions, the afternoon session will feature sessions on funding clean energy and climate-resilient businesses, keynotes from UN Women and the United Nations Environment Programme, and introductions to businesses from the Fair Futures Accelerator.

Villgro Philippines co-founder and CEO Priya Thachadi shared, "Fair Futures is all about empowering the people facing the hardest challenges related to climate change to become the leaders in developing a solution. We want to help give entrepreneurs resources, skills, and access to finance in order for them to increase their impact in ways that really matter and to support a just transition in the Philippines."

Villgro Philippines manages the Fair Futures Accelerator in collaboration with the Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI). This partnership is part of the EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies initiative that is being implemented by both UN Women and UNEP.
