Dr Aditi Agarwal: Tech Driven Dental Analytics Leader & AI Strategist

Dr Aditi Agarwal
Co-Founder

Dentistry generates enormous amounts of data every day, yet most dental practices still struggle to translate that data into clear decisions. Information is scattered across multiple disconnected systems, leaving practice owners with plenty of reports but very little operational clarity about what is truly driving growth, patient care, and team performance.

Dr Aditi Agarwal, Co-Founder of Practice by Numbers, has built her career around solving this challenge. As both a practicing dentist and a technology entrepreneur, she recognized early that practices needed more than software, they needed operational clarity.

Practice by Numbers was created to unify data across the practice and transform it into actionable intelligence that helps dentists make better decisions about patient care, team performance, and business growth.

Over the years, Practice by Numbers has evolved into a comprehensive dental practice software platform that combines analytics, workflow automation, patient engagement tools, and AI-powered insights.

Beyond her work as a founder, Aditi runs her own dental practice and is a sought-after speaker.

Tell us about your professional journey. What core areas of specialization have you developed over the years?

As an inquisitive student, I was drawn to the impact of structured systems on performance and outcomes. The journey of transitioning from a practicing dentist to a budding entrepreneur was gradual but rewarding. I was driven to develop structured systems that enhanced the quality of dental treatments by building better healthcare environments.

With a career spanning three decades and academic training from institutions across the globe, my professional journey ultimately led me to practicing dentistry in the United States.

Over the years, my specialization has evolved from clinical practice to developing a software that empowers dentists to make smarter data-driven decisions, while delivering quality patient care. My core areas of specialization include practice management, operational efficiency, analytics, and leadership.

The most rewarding part of this journey has been building something that helps bring the joy back to dentistry, for both providers and their teams

Introduce us to Practice by Numbers. What key responsibilities do you shoulder as the Co-founder?

Practice by Numbers was founded to deliver clarity, transparency, and intelligence to dental practice management. The industry produces abundant data but its utilization is underleveraged.

As co-founder, I get to sit at the intersection of product, education, and the broader dental community. I work closely with our product and engineering teams to make sure everything we build actually reflects how practices operate day to day.

And I spend a lot of time talking directly with dentists, understanding what’s working, what’s frustrating, and where things can be simpler.

Practice by Numbers is designed to give practices clear visibility and the operational intelligence they need to grow, without adding complexity, so they can deliver better care and run stronger businesses.

What challenges do you encounter in bridging clinical care with data, systems and AI-driven practice management?

Dentistry has always been rooted in clinical judgment and hands-on experience, not dashboards and data. So, bringing in analytics, systems, or AI can feel overwhelming or even impersonal at first.

But when these tools are implemented the right way, they actually do the opposite. They take repetitive, time-consuming tasks off the plate and give teams quick, clear insights—so one can focus more on patients.

To address change, we start with educating the team. Success depends on building an aligned, team-wide understanding of the why behind everything we do. The second is implementing systems in manageable stages. Lastly, we share measurable results and reward progress to reinforce collective ownership of our goals.

How do you see AI reshaping the future of dentistry and patient experience in the years to come?

Technology is moving faster than ever, and AI is elevating and reshaping every aspect of how we deliver care. In dentistry, AI is already enhancing diagnostic support, augmenting clinical decision-making and improving risk stratification.

Beyond clinical applications, PbN is using AI to back-office operations by automating routine administrative processes. It helps with predictive decision intelligence, anticipating operational challenges and reducing paperwork, allowing teams to focus on patient relationships and quality care.

What are some of the most rewarding aspects of your work?

The most rewarding part of this journey has been building something that helps bring the joy back to dentistry, for both providers and their teams.

I’m also incredibly proud of helping shift the conversation in our industry, especially around AI and healthcare data. At the same time, I deeply value what has always made dentistry meaningful, the trust, the relationships, the personal care.

To me, the goal isn’t to replace that, it’s to restore it. By blending that timeless, relationship-driven approach with smarter, more intelligent ways to run and grow a practice, we can give teams the space to focus on what they love most about what they do.

What are your future goals, both personally and for the organization?

I stay grounded by remaining clinically active and making sure every tool we bring to market is thoroughly validated in real-world workflows. That product-first, real-world mindset has helped us keep our focus on what truly matters.

Stepping into a more public role has been incredibly meaningful, giving me the chance to learn from experienced leaders and be part of the conversations shaping the future of our profession.

At the end of the day, my vision is simple: to solve the challenges dental practices face with practical, workflow-driven solutions, so we can bring the joy back to dentistry and give teams the freedom to focus on what they do best: delivering excellent patient care.
