Driven by the intent to create a significant impact, very few professionals find their true calling out of curiosity and courage to choose where they can contribute most. Enrica Casagrande's story is a perfect example of such a journey.
Drawn to multiple disciplines in her youth, she chose to foray into law and create genuine change through her work. What followed was a career defined by an unyielding commitment towards excellence.
From her early days of independent practice to years in the private sector, Enrica steadily improved her expertise prior to joining UNTITLED SLC in 2014. There, she built deep specialization in investment funds, regulated companies and BVI-focused structures, naturally expanding into international planning, FATCA and CRS compliance, fiduciary services and sophisticated wealth planning for private clients.
Today, as the firm’s first Partner and head of the legal department, she leads with a blend of commercial vision, people-centred leadership and values-driven culture-building.
Enrica’s role also brings challenges that include navigating generational differences, fostering transparent communication as well as maintaining a high-performing environment. Yet, she approaches them with quiet understanding and a strong vision for the future.
What inspired you to pursue a career in law, despite exploring several diverse fields?
Since childhood, I was drawn to several fields that interested me; from veterinary to nuclear medicine, as well as law. These early explorations allowed me to discover the wide range of disciplines that fascinated me and helped shape my understanding of where I might someday contribute meaningfully.
When the time came to choose, what ultimately defined my path was understanding where I could create the greatest impact or make a meaningful contribution, and that was the legal field.
This realization guided me towards a profession where I could apply analytical thinking, problem-solving, and purpose-driven work in a way that aligned with my values.
In the early years of my career, I practiced independently for a short period, as I quickly realized that this was not the work dynamic I enjoyed most. I then spent several years in the private sector before joining UNTITLED SLC in 2014 as a Managing Associate (then Litwak & Partners).
Newer generations are different from mine, and adapting the workplace while balancing empathy and authenticity can be demanding
How did your role at UNTITLED SLC grow to include international planning and wealth management?
After joining UNTITLED SLC, I began specializing in investment funds and regulated companies, primarily in the British Virgin Islands. I deepened my knowledge of BVI regulations and the offshore industry more broadly. This naturally evolved into international planning- using various tools and jurisdictions, FATCA & CRS compliance, fiduciary services, and ultimately wealth planning for private clients.
As the lawyer responsible for the legal department, my primary role is to lead my team and oversee the work the firm carries out. In addition, I handle the more commercial side of client and service diversification, as well as client care. Another key responsibility is shaping the team through our values and culture, ensuring alignment between what we stand for, who we are, and the services we provide.
What challenges do you encounter as the firm’s first partner and how do you mitigate them?
I am the firm’s first partner, which is a challenge in itself. Some of the key challenges include leading the team effectively, meeting the firm’s goals, and creating a friendly and efficient work environment. Newer generations are different from mine, both in positive and negative ways. This makes adapting to the workplace demanding: balancing expectations, being direct and authentic while maintaining empathy.
My approach is to make communication the foundation of our organization. Over the years, I have learned to remain calm and practical, to get involved as needed while also maintaining enough distance to gain a broader view that helps me process information, make decisions, and move forward.
How do you see recent industry changes? What challenges lie ahead?
We have seen significant changes recently. Situations that once seemed distant, like CRS, beneficial ownership registers, and the global minimum tax, are now a reality. The disruption caused by CRS was enormous, and although many thought it would take years, it is now part of everyday practice. Today, we are in a moment of asking “what comes next?” Concepts such as a CRS for crypto assets or real estate no longer seem far-fetched. This is a living industry, and its constant evolution is what attracts many of us.
As a lawyer, I see AI as a helpful tool, but genuine interest, creativity, and empathy matter more. Staying informed is essential, and AI can support that; yet it cannot replace the rest. A key challenge ahead, especially in Latin America where some countries remain outside automatic information exchange, will be privacy: helping people understand what is being lost and what that truly means.
What career milestone has meant the most to you, and what drives your success?
Becoming a Partner at UNTITLED SLC at 38 was a defining milestone in my career. Coming from a non-legal family and working as a lawyer and notary in Uruguay, where wealth planning is only recently gaining traction, makes this achievement especially meaningful.
My guiding mantra has always been perseverance. I set clear goals and work steadily toward them, relying on hard work and dedication as the backbone of my progress.
Nothing has been easy, but choosing to see the glass half full and learning from every mistake remains my greatest strength.
