Kezia Karina Gomes De Miranda : Legal Strategist Shaping The Future Of Digital Finance In Latin America

Kezia Karina Gomes De Miranda
Chief Legal Officer

The world of digital finance evolves rapidly, and regulation-formation often has to play catchup with the industry’s new trends. Not many people can skilfully guide institutions through an environment of such uncertainty. Fintech law expert, Dr Kezia Karina Gomes de Miranda is one of them. Her journey began from the educational institutions of a military school in Brazil and went through the complex fintech and digital banking scenarios in Latin America, showcases an ideal blend of a curious nature and a courageous aspiration.

Interested in understanding how systems influence society, Kezia Miranda perceived law as a means to solve complicated issues and bring about significant changes. Her journey began as a tax lawyer but she moved towards digital banking and fintech. Soon, tokenization, blockchain, cross-border compliance and digital governance became her playground. Founding her own firm, Kezia Miranda Law, she became a trusted navigator for innovation-driven companies seeking clarity amidst complexity.

As the Chief Legal Officer at BDM Bank, she is responsible for breaking down the rapidly changing technological trends into practical legal strategies, thereby making sure that the expansion is not at the cost of compliance or integrity. In addition to her professional roles, she is a university professor and contributes to the development of the next generation of leaders by combining theoretical and practical aspects of law.

Tell us about your professional journey. How your experiences shaped your expertise in the industry?

I grew up in an environment that valued responsibility, discipline, and intellectual curiosity, which inspired my interest in how systems and institutions shape society. Encouraged by my family to pursue education and independence, I gained the confidence to follow a career requiring analytical depth and purpose.

My career began as a tax lawyer, and I later specialized in digital regulation and financial innovation, advising companies, investors, and innovation-driven institutions across Latin America. I am a member of the bar in São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul, lead the legal department at BDM Bank, and run my own firm, Kezia Miranda Advogados Associados (Law Firm). I also teach law, focusing on tax, compliance, and fintech innovation, bridging law, finance, and technology to enable secure and scalable growth.

How did your career in digital law and finance lead to your current roles?

My professional journey has been deeply rooted in financial regulation, digital law, and emerging technologies. Over the years, I have advised a wide range of companies, from fintech startups to global financial groups.

I founded my own law firm early in my career, which allowed me to develop a multidisciplinary approach combining corporate structuring, compliance, tokenization frameworks, and prudential regulatory strategy. This experience led me to work closely with digital banks and blockchain-driven financial platforms, helping them build strong operational and governance frameworks.

This trajectory ultimately positioned me to take on my current roles as Chief Legal Officer at BDM Bank and BDM digital. I also work with several other major clients, offering strategic legal advisory in risk management, operational integrity, and regulatory compliance.

What are your main challenges as a legal leader?

One of my biggest challenges as a legal leader is balancing rapid technological innovation with the slower pace of regulatory evolution. Digital finance moves in real time, while regulation remains stable and cautious. My role is to bridge these worlds. I enable innovation without compromising compliance, prudential safety, or institutional integrity. Managing operational and governance risks amid rising fraud, cyber threats, and regulatory scrutiny is another key challenge. I address this by building strong internal frameworks, fostering accountability, and collaborating with a skilled, strategic legal team.

Success comes from working with capable people who move with the agility the industry demands. Another recurring challenge is translating complex legal obligations into actionable processes for executives, technology teams, and operations. I overcome this through clear communication, early risk anticipation, and aligning legal insights with business decisions.

No matter how complex the financial and regulatory world becomes, clarity and integrity must remain at the center

How is Brazil shaping the future of fintech and digital finance?

Brazil is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s most dynamic ecosystems for fintech, digital payments, tokenization, and open finance. Technological innovation is reshaping the legal and financial landscape. We are seeing strengthening consumer protection through smarter regulations, expanding financial inclusion with digital onboarding, instant payments, and wallets, and accelerating blockchain adoption for tokenization, cross-border transactions, and transparency.

Compliance is also transforming, with AI improving KYC, monitoring, and fraud-prevention. Meanwhile, open banking and open finance are driving greater competition and efficiency across the market.

Looking ahead, legal professionals must adopt a strategic and technologically fluent mindset, understanding not only legislation but also the architecture of digital financial systems.

What milestones and principles have shaped your legal career? What’s your guiding leadership mantra?

Some of the milestones I value most include building a specialized law firm focused on innovation and digital regulation, and advising multiple fintechs and digital banks during critical phases of growth and restructuring. I have also led high-impact regulatory and governance projects in the financial sector and helped design cross-border financial structures aligned with the highest compliance standards.

Becoming Chief Legal Officer of a digital bank has been another significant achievement, as it allows me to influence the future of financial innovation at a strategic level. My success mantra is clarity, integrity, and strategy. One must always act with purpose, precision, and courage. I believe success is built through consistency, ethical leadership, and the ability to transform complexity into actionable direction.
