Fidji Simo Takes on Executive Role as OpenAI as Chief Executive Officer of Applications

OpenAI has appointed Fidji Simo as Chief Executive Officer of Applications, a newly established role that will focus on scaling consumer-facing products such as ChatGPT. Reporting directly to CEO Sam Altman, Simo will lead the company’s applications portfolio while Altman continues to oversee research, infrastructure, and safety. Simo brings a proven track record of innovation and operational excellence, having led Instacart through a successful IPO in 2024, the first major tech offering in over three years. Her extensive leadership experience includes over a decade at Metrodora Foundation, along with over a decade Facebook and academic credentials from UCLA Anderson and HEC Paris.
