Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson- Caller ID & Call Waiting

Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson is the first African American woman to acquire a Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), well-known for inventing Caller ID and Call Waiting. During her years at AT&T Bell Labs, she came up with this advanced technology which transformed the information technology industry.
This concept provided an option to the users to screen and manage calls, upgrading experience and privacy. Beyond her innovation, she has served as the 18th president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, fitting into the title of a distinguished leader in science and education sphere. Her legacy still inspires generations of women and minorities in STEM fields worldwide.
