By: Rachita Sharma, Managing Editor | Thursday, 29 May 2025

Women form nearly half of the world’s population, yet their representation in positions of power and access to opportunities remains unequitable. Bridging the gender divide has been a top priority for progressive nations across the world. For years, affirmative action has been taken to improve women’s position in various aspects of life and work. Few nations have made more progress than others.

The Southeastern African nation of Mozambique is one such nation. Led by progressive initiatives and societal change, the nation largely known for its stunning coastline and naturally occurring natural resources, has become one of Africa’s most progressive nations when it comes to women’s empowerment.

Women currently form nearly half of the nation’s political structure, with the speaker currently being a woman. Mozambique’s Assembly currently has a 43.2% representation of women. Half of the nation’s cabinet ministers are also women, making it the highest representation of women in cabinet positions in Africa.

Women in the Mozambique are also a crucial part of the country’s business sector. Contributing greatly to the economy, women in Mozambique are business-oriented. One in four women in the nation is either starting or managing a business.
