Gender parity in the workplaces has been a topic of discussion globally for several years now. Although women’s representation in the overall workforce has increased over the past few years, yet a lot of ground remains to be covered. Women continue being under-represented in leadership roles.
A closer look at Hong Kong in Asia paints a similar picture, with few silver linings. According to research released by MSCI, an American financial firm, as of October, women held 20.8% of board seats across all Hong Kong-listed businesses, up from 19% the previous year and 16% in 2022. According to the survey, the percentage of companies with a female CEO rose from 4.4% to 5.6% in the previous year.
It is exasperating to see women being underrepresented in leadership positions even after witnessing the stark benefits of having more women leader.
