Brazil’s legal landscape has long been shaped by formidable women whose leadership blends technical excellence, ethical conviction, and strategic clarity. Among these trailblazers stands Aline de Almada Messias, a distinguished figure whose three decades of experience, including two decades in C-Suite roles, reflects the rising influence of women redefining governance, compliance, and corporate integrity across Latin America.

Raised in a family of lawyers and inspired profoundly by her father’s integrity and humanity, Aline built a career anchored in responsibility, transparency, and long-term value creation. After earning her Law degree, she began in corporate law before moving into senior leadership roles, leading multicultural teams, strengthening governance structures, and implementing ethics and compliance programs throughout the region.

Since 2017, Aline has been serving as the Legal and Compliance Director at Hospital Sírio-Libanês, where she has successfully contributed to transforming governance in one of Latin America’s most respected healthcare institutions.

"I believe in inspiring by example and nurturing environments where integrity, empathy, and accountability guide every decision"

Take us through the formative years of your life. What were some key influences that inspired you to pursue a career in law?

I come from a family of lawyers, and my greatest inspiration was my father, my mentor, guide, and role model. His dedication, integrity, and humanity shaped both my values and my leadership. I earned my Law degree from Universidade Mackenzie and completed a specialization in Comparative International Business Law at George Washington University. I began my career working in law firms, where I developed a strong foundation in corporate law and mergers and acquisitions.

Tell us about your professional journey that has shaped your expertise in law. What core areas of specialization have you developed over the years?

With over three decades of experience, including twenty years in C-level roles, I have built my career as a leader in legal strategy, corporate governance, and compliance. I believe that technical excellence, integrity, and vision are the foundation of sustainable business and strong ethical cultures.

My transition to the corporate world broadened my impact, leading me to senior roles at Whirlpool, Sony, Google, Samsung, and LATAM Airlines. Across these positions, I developed governance frameworks, led multicultural teams, and strengthened corporate integrity by implementing Compliance Departments and Ethics Committees throughout Latin America, always grounded in responsibility, transparency, and long-term value creation.

Tell us about Hospital Sírio-Libanês and your role as the Legal and Compliance Director within the Hospital? What impact have you created through your work at the Hospital?

Hospital Sírio-Libanês is one of Latin America’s most respected healthcare institutions, recognized for medical excellence, research leadership, and a deep commitment to ethical governance.

Since 2017, I have served as Director of Legal, Compliance, Governance, Risks, and Internal Controls, where I established and strengthened the hospital’s Compliance and Governance functions, advancing initiatives in integrity, privacy, bioethics, and ESG.

My work helped implement international monitoring standards for patient care and significantly elevate institutional governance. I actively contribute to key committees, including Integrity and Conduct, Bioethics, Privacy, and ESG, supporting decisions on regulation, innovation, and data governance.

Under my leadership, Hospital Sírio-Libanês became the first and only hospital in Brazil to receive the Pró-Ética Seal in two consecutive cycles. I also led the implementation of Faculdade Sírio-Libanês and oversaw Brazil’s first healthcare endowment, creating a long-term sustainability model for the institution.

Looking back on your journey, what key milestones and achievements are you most proud of?

My professional journey has been recognized through several meaningful achievements. I am a co- author of LGPD na Saúde, LGPD na Saúde Digital, and Brazil’s Manual de Cuidados Paliativos, developed with the Ministry of Health. I currently coordinate the Postgraduate Program in Compliance at Hospital Sírio-Libanês. I received the AB2L Innovative Legal Department  Certification in 2024 and 2025, and earlier was named Latin America General Counsel of the Year (2010) and received the Silver Award for Best Latin American Legal Department (2015). I was also recognized as “Most Admired GC” for six consecutive years and served on the Board of Multiplus S.A.

What is your ‘leadership philosophy’ for continued growth and success?

Beyond my executive responsibilities, I am a proud mother of two daughters, and my family remains my greatest source of strength and purpose. My passion for sports shapes my discipline, resilience, and balance, qualities that influence how I lead.

My leadership philosophy is simple: inspire by example. I strive to build environments grounded in integrity, empathy, and accountability, and I am deeply committed to developing people. Helping my team grow into confident, capable leaders is one of my greatest motivations. My work continues to strengthen institutional resilience and advance ethical, sustainable, and forward-looking governance.
