By: Global Woman Leader Team | Thursday, 18 June 2026

On 18th June, the 14th National Women's Congress for the period of 2026 - 2031 began in Hanoi, with 789 women representatives from various ethnic groups, religions, professions, and social sectors from across the nation participating.

During the event, the Chairman of the National Assembly participated and spoke at the event, which was attended by many current and former members of the Party and State, in addition to representatives from ministries and central agencies.

During the opening of the congress, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) Le Thi Thuy spoke about the remarkable results the Union and women's movements had achieved over the past term. She thinks that the Party's leadership and the support from the Government, Vietnam Fatherland Front, ministries, sectors, local authorities and domestic and foreign partners was the key to the success of the results.

Vietnamese women, according to Thuy, have proven to be resilient, creative, intellectual and committed to the development of the country. In addition, women's movements have also become more substantial and effective, such as the “Developing Vietnamese Women in the New Era” campaign that has helped to promote women's all-round development and the overall development of the country.

That is a turning point that will open a new phase for the development of women's movements and Vietnam's VWU, according to her, in Vietnam's vision of building a prosperous, democratic, civilized and happy society.

Key Highlights:

  • 789 delegates attend the 14th National Women's Congress in Hanoi for the 2026–2031 term
  • Congress prioritizes women's empowerment, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship
  • Delegates to elect the new Vietnam Women's Union Central Committee and set the next five-year agenda

At the congress it will be discussed how the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of Women is implemented, the effectiveness of the Central Committee of the VWU, the implementation of the VWU's current statutes and to consider amendments to the VWU statutes. The congress will also elect the VWU Central Committee for the period of 2026 - 2031.

The congress will also look back at the work of the past term as well as forward to directions, goals and action plans over the next five years.

The VWU will continue to advocate for emulating movements and campaigns throughout the country, including the development of the “Developing Vietnamese Women in the New Era” movement as a key focus, and the study and emulation of President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, moral example and style.

Three breakthroughs have been identified by the union as the path forward: Improving the quality of the female workforce to better align with the needs of the new era; accelerating the digital transformation and revolutionizing the operation with a new emphasis on the ground; and promoting women entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable wealth building.

The congress has also set itself 12 goals, 5 key tasks and 20 measures of action. The comprehensive development of women and families, economic empowerment of women, women equality, national unity, Party and political system development and women's Union effectiveness in the people-to-people diplomatic efforts are key priorities.
