The Philippines is found to be the world’s most at-risk nation based on the 2025 World Risk Report, with climate change-induced disruptions of livelihoods increasingly happening and increasingly costly to affected nations like the Philippines.
To address these issues, more than 30 social enterprises for and by women will gather at Makati City on January 30 for the Fair Futures Venture Showcase.
The showcase features clean energy and climate-resilient livelihood projects and solutions for and from communities through the circular economy approach.
Nevertheless, a number of these organizations are faced with difficulties in obtaining funding and market access, thus restricting the size on which their solutions operate.
For this reason, the conference will provide entrepreneurs to network with impact investors, micro-finance institutions, as well as development partners in order to consider how these solutions may be made available to more communities.
It is in this line that the goal is to help unlock financing for adopting cleaner technologies while guaranteeing a sustainable, inclusive economy.
As Jonas Gregory Perez, the national Programme officer for UN Women, said, "By investing in women-led and gender-inclusive enterprises, we are creating pathways to clean technologies, sustainable livelihoods, and a greener economy that leaves no one behind. This is how we turn ambition into action and action into resilience."
In addition to entrepreneurs' presentations, the event will consist of panel discussions regarding clean energy and climate-resilient enterprise financing, keynote addresses from the UN Women and the United Nations Environment Programme, and enterprise introductions of the Fair Futures Accelerator.
According to Priya Thachadi, co-founder and CEO of Villgro Philippines: "Fair Futures is about ensuring that those closest to the challenges of climate change are empowered to lead the solutions. We will be committed to supporting entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge, and financing they need to scale impact where it matters most, enabling a just transition in the Philippines."
Villgro Philippines oversees the Fair Futures Accelerator, in partnership with the Microfinance Council of the Philippines Inc. (MCPI) under the EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies project, which is a joint initiative of UN Women and UNEP.
