Recently, Alternative Bank held a virtual event in honor of the International Day of Rural Women as it continues its work on women's empowerment.
The event focused on the roles of rural women and how to improve them within a digital and financial economy in a number of different aspects under, “Rural Women and MSMEs: Driving Sustainability, Strengthening Economies, Securing Our Shared Tomorrow," and was attended by policymakers, thought-leaders, and partners in international development.
Korede Demola-Adeniyi, Executive Director (South) of The Alternative Bank, began the event by advising that today is a call to action and reiterated the Bank’s commitment to inclusive financing and the participation of women-owned businesses.
She outlined the critical roles that rural women play to sustain food systems, caring for families, and how to establish community resilience.
An important announcement during the session was the establishment of the Alternative Bank–Utiva Women in Tech Scholarship, which will support a total of 20 women entrepreneurs to develop digital and business-innovation skills.
The first cohort of the program will take place in November of 2025, allowing them to develop their businesses further and enter the digital economy more fully!
Eyitayo Ogunmola -Chief Executive Officer of Utiva- was eager about the opportunity, and reaffirmed the opportunity for positive impact on women caused by digital empowerment and entrepreneurship.
