AWIEF Launches Pitch n Grow 2026 to Support Women-Led Startups

By: Global Woman Leader Team | Wednesday, 24 June 2026

Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) has officially launched  its flagship annual entrepreneurship pitch competition, Pitch n Grow 2026, to screen, support and promote high-potential women-led innovations in Africa.

Women entrepreneurs building innovative solutions to some of Africa's challenges in development are given a platform to showcase their work in competition. The finalists will be given the chance to pitch their businesses in person at the AWIEF 2026 Conference to be held in Cape Town, South Africa on 10 and 11 November 2026.

The theme of the 2026 edition, “Deep Roots, Digital Futures,” is a testament to the mission and vision of AWIEF of fostering innovation that is rooted in Africa and harnesses the potential of new technology. The theme is inviting women entrepreneurs to embrace the latest technology not as a solution brought in from elsewhere, but as a technology built and adapted to the challenges and opportunities on the continent.

Africa's greatest strength is its local knowledge of communities, their cultures and problems, writes AWIEF. The organisation feels that this knowledge, together with state-of-the-art technologies, can be used to produce significant and sustainable economic growth in African countries.

Key Highlights

  • Women entrepreneurs compete with each other for funding, exposure and recognition.
  • Finalists will go on the pitch at AWIEF Conference 2026.
  • Innovation sectors include technology, sustainability, health and finance.

Applications are available to women entrepreneurs/founders and co-founders across all African countries developing businesses in priority innovation areas. AI & Machine Learning, AgriTech, HealthTech, Clean Energy, Water Technology, Biotechnology, FinTech, Cybersecurity, EdTech, Smart Cities, Circular Economy and other Frontier Technologies are included.

In order to allow businesses in various stages of development to compete, the competition has been divided into three categories. The Pre-Venture track is for businesses that have a concept, prototype or proof of concept. The Early-Stage track is for registered startups with active customers and revenues. The Growth-Stage track is designed for startups that have proven to have market traction and are expanding into their next region.

The selected participants will benefit from various services that will help to boost the development of their venture. This includes training bootcamps facilitated by experts and mentorship from industry experts, investors and established entrepreneurs, and greater exposure amongst investors, ecosystem partners and the media. Finalists will also be provided travel and accommodation to assist them to attend the finals in Cape Town.

Attendees will not only gain networking and investment connections, but they will also have the chance to win cash awards and international acclaim, helping to expand and scale their businesses.

AWIEF is also releasing the detailed program of the competition. The orientation webinars will be conducted from 1st July to 7th July 2026 to familiarize the applicants with the process and requirements, and the applications opened on 22nd June 2026. The application deadline is 20 July 2026 and there will be a Bootcamp program in August 2026. Finalists will be announced on 20 September 2026 prior to the live finals for the AWIEF 2026 Conference in November.

Interested female entrepreneurs are invited to apply before 20 July 2026 deadline. With Pitch n Grow 2026, AWIEF is set to inspire the next generation of African women innovators and offer a platform for their presentations of transformative concepts that can support the continent's sustainable development and digital future.
