Boston Energy, a pioneering force in wind power, has restated its commitment to enabling women to construct careers in the wind energy sector. Through its “Women into Wind” initiative, the firm is actively urging additional women to enter the rapidly expanding industry and is striving to drive higher gender diversity throughout its workforce.
Boston Energy is actively engaged in promoting more women to join careers in wind energy by offering them hands-on training, mentoring, career development guidance, and leadership roles in the industry. Working worldwide, the firm provides highly skilled technicians to leading wind farm developers and operators. From 2012 to date, Boston Energy has worked on over 100 onshore and offshore wind farms, with over 6,000 turbines maintained by technicians from pre-assembly to installation and maintenance.
Only 21 percent of the workforces in the global wind industry are women, with just 8 percent in leadership positions, the International Renewable Energy Agency says. Boston Energy is committed to reversing that trend and opening up more opportunities for women and showcasing the fulfilling careers found in the wind energy industry.
Boston Energy recently gave its female team members the opportunity to take part in a careers event run by the Women into Manufacturing and Engineering (WiME) partnership based in Humber. Based in Grimsby, one of the hubs for offshore wind, the event incorporated school and college student sessions to initiate interest in young women, and open forums for women looking to pursue new careers.
Sarah Shires, People Manager at Boston Energy, stated, “At Boston Energy, we believe diversity is crucial for fostering innovation and driving progress, especially in sectors like wind energy that play a vital role in securing a sustainable future.”
“Through our Women into Wind campaign, we are committed to offering mentorship, training, and opportunities that enable women to thrive and take on leadership roles within this dynamic sector. Our focus extends beyond recruitment; we aim to cultivate an environment where women can not only enter but also excel in the wind power industry.”
“By participating in events like the WiME careers day and implementing initiatives such as Women into Wind, Boston Energy continues to champion diversity and inclusion. Attending WiME events are essential for us, as it enables us to connect with and inspire the next generation of talent, particularly women, to pursue careers in wind energy.”
“We understand that creating a diverse workforce is critical for driving innovation and ensuring continued growth and success in the renewable energy sector. By engaging in these events, we strengthen our commitment to shaping a more inclusive industry that incorporates the diverse perspectives necessary to address future challenges.”
