The Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on Support for Women Entrepreneurs in Gumi City, moved by Councilor Kim Chunnam (People Power Party/Sangmo-Sagok-Imo-dong), was passed as moved at the 291st 2nd Plenary Session of the Gumi City Council.
The amendment is intended to complement the current ordinance, synchronize it with higher-level legislation, and make stronger support measures that had been weaker relative to other city governments, giving more systematic aid to women entrepreneurs in Gumi City.
Major revisions are specifying the mayor's role and setting the foundation for a basic plan (Articles 3–5). Incorporating support measures for women entrepreneurs' practical activities (Article 6), among other revisions.
Councilor Kim said the amendment aims to overcome difficulties like outside networking, under which women entrepreneurs might encounter more hindrances than men, and to increase support so that Gumi City, the sole city in North Gyeongsang Province with such an ordinance, can solidify its position as a women-friendly city.
The amendment also highlights creating awareness, instilling pride in women entrepreneurs, and stimulating activities like Women Entrepreneurs Week, as specified in more elevated legislation.
In order to empower women-led startups, the proposal has the following initiatives: preferential access to startup support facilities and the provision of fostering spaces for entrepreneurs.
Through this amendment, Gumi City has built an institutional base for effective support policies for women entrepreneurs that will help contribute to the local economy and advance gender equality.
