Global Gateway Activates Collaborations to Empower Women & Strengthen Communities

The Global Gateway strategy spearheads cross-sector partnerships to accelerate women’s economic empowerment and build resilient communities worldwide. A new agreement signed in Seville with Banque EI Amana in Mauritania will bolster financing for women-led enterprises operating in the blue economy.

The announcement took place during the high-level side event Sustainable Finance of Gender Equality: Accelerating Action Towards 2030, hosted by the Governments of Luxembourg and South Africa in partnership with UN Women and the European Investment Bank.

With targeted investment in female entrepreneurship across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, the initiative is backed by influential partners including European Investment Bank (EIB), Government of Luxembourg, Gates Foundation, World Bank’s CGAP, and the International Labour Organization.

In coordination with the 4th UN Conference on Financing for Development, the EIB, European Commission, and Luxembourg Government are leveraging public-private partnerships to boost women’s economic participation through focused investments in green and inclusive grown sectors.

Nadia Calviño, EIB President, said: “When women thrive whole communities benefit and we build more prosperous and peaceful societies. Through Global Gateway, the European Union is unlocking new opportunities around the world with projects in key sectors like health, entrepreneurship, agriculture, climate action and energy. Investing in women is not only the right thing to do, but also the smart thing to do.”

Women play a pivotal role in strengthening community resilience and securing food system through their leadership in environmental sustainability and active participation in critical economic sectors. The initiative strengthens female economic participation and supports climate, food, and development priorities across Africa, Asia, and beyond.
