Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build initiative recorded a historic $601,000+ in contributions, its most successful season yet in Lee and Hendry Counties. This achievement was made possible by the dedicated efforts of 170 volunteers and the strategic support of 168 SuperPeople donors, committed to five-year pledges supporting affordable housing for female-headed families.
Habitat for Humanity concluded the 2025 Women Build campaign with a recognition event on May 15 at the McGregor Boulevard Restore in Fort Myers. The celebration honored record-breaking engagement from sponsors, donors, and fundraising teams. Notably, the 10 fundraising teams alone secured $269,000, representing 46% of the total campaign contributions.
This season’s fundraising will help finance the building of a new home for a single mother and her two sons. As part of Habitat’s proven pathway to ownership, the future homeowner will invest 300 hours of labor, complete required homeownership training, contribute toward closing costs, and assume a mortgage structured to remain within 30% of her income, ensuring long-term affordability.
“We are incredibly proud to have reached our 15th anniversary fundraising goal, a milestone that truly highlights our community’s generosity and dedication to Habitat’s mission,” said CEO Becky Lucas of Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties. “Women Build continues to be a vital initiative that empowers women and strengthens our mission to build hope and stability for families and generations to come.”
Women build has forged lasting partnerships with 30 female-headed families since its inception in 2011, leveraging local resources to promote housing stability. This year, Habitat will construct 62 affordable homes, with 42 units earmarked for women-led households-reflecting a strong alignment with its mission to support underserved communities.
