IBC Bank Women's Forum Launches Grants for Women Entrepreneurs

The inaugural 2026 IBC Bank Women’s Forum brought together women leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals from across the Laredo community to promote leadership, networking and business growth.

Patty Kirby and Catalina Dickerson, both with the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, said the event is designed for women looking to grow their careers, expand their networks and connect with mentors.

The keynote speaker is Stephanie Kendrick, the first woman president of the La Quinta by Wyndham group. The Laredo Chamber of Commerce said attendees can expect to hear about Kendrick’s career trajectory and the challenges she faced.

The Laredo Chamber of Commerce said proceeds from the Women’s Forum are reinvested into the Laredo Chamber Foundation, which funds women empowerment grants. It said businesses that purchase a table qualify for a tax deduction, as the Chamber Foundation operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Each of the three recipients will receive a $2,000 grant, which can be used for expenses such as marketing, events, equipment or repairs, according to Patty Kirby, chair of the Chamber’s Women in Business Committee.

In addition to the grant money, each recipient will receive three hours of mentorship with a lawyer, an accountant and a businesswoman.

“We have a very unique shared experience that can only be understood by that,” Kirby said. “And that’s why our committee in general and this grant is so important.”

Kirby said the growth of female business ownership in Laredo was a driving factor behind the program.

“The representation of how much the Chamber has grown, changed, diversified, the increase in female business owners and entrepreneurs — it’s so amazing to see,” Kirby said. “So now we just want to give support back to that community.”

To be eligible, applicants must own at least 51% of their business and operate within the Laredo and Webb County area. Chamber membership is not required, though members are encouraged to apply.

The Women in Business Empowerment Grant was launched earlier this year to strengthen women-led enterprises and help business owners expand their operations. Eligible businesses can use the funding for business development needs such as marketing, equipment, events and operational improvements. The initiative reflects the Chamber Foundation's broader commitment to supporting entrepreneurship, leadership development and economic growth within the local community.
