Lauren Parfitt Signs Glamorgan's First Women's Pro Contract

Glamorgan County Cricket Club has signed Lauren Parfitt to its first-ever professional women’s contract, marking an important milestone as the club strengthens its women’s program ahead of its planned move towards Tier 1 status in 2027.

Lauren brings more than two decades of experience in Welsh cricket. She began playing at Croesyceiliog Cricket Club in 2003 before moving to Newport, where she became a key member of its women’s team. She entered the Wales age-group pathway in 2005 and went on to establish herself as a prominent figure in the national game.

At just 18, Lauren was appointed captain of Wales Women, a role she held throughout much of her 2007–2024 playing career. Her long association with Welsh cricket has been marked by leadership and consistency, making her an important figure in the development of the women’s game in the region.

Lauren has also featured prominently in domestic women’s cricket She represented Western Storm in the Kia Super League during 2017 and 2018 before continuing with the team in the Rachel Heyhoe-Flint Trophy and Charlotte Edwards Cup between 2020 and 2022. Her professional contract with Glamorgan represents another significant milestone in her career and in the club’s plans for women’s cricket.

She was appointed as captain of the Club's inaugural women's team in 2025 and was instrumental in their development and success, while also paving the way for the Club's path to Tier 1. This is an announcement of her impact and direction of travel for women's cricket in Wales.

 In addition to playing in cricket, Lauren is a PE teacher and Head of Year at Bassaleg Comprehensive School which have played a hugely important role in supporting her ambitions in cricket. This crucial juncture of her career has been blessed by that same backing as the school has been kind enough to give Lauren a sabbatical year to allow her to play professional cricket of her dreams.

This opportunity will allow Lauren to dedicate all her efforts to cricket this historic year, and will allow her to continue to be supported by a school that has been a major part of her career.

Speaking on signing Glamorgan first-ever women's professional contract, Lauren said: “11 year old me dreamt of becoming a professional cricketer when I never thought it would be an option, so to now have the opportunity to play professionally in a sport I love is an incredible feeling.”
