As part of its inclusive development strategy, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reiterated its commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women in Niger Delta. During the opening session of a three-day International Women’s Day workshop in Akwa Ibom, the commission’s commitment to advancing gender-inclusive policies that support women’s socio-economic empowerment across the region were emphasized.
NDDC’s Executive Director Sir Victor Antai, acknowledged the vital role of women in regional progress, underscoring NDCC’s unwavering focus on gender equality as an integral component of its long-term development framework. He stated “In our sustainable development agenda, gender equality remains a priority.”
He emphasized that NDDC’s initiative reflect a cohesive approach with national priorities, aligning closely with the Renewed Hope Initiative and the Tinubu administration’s vision for inclusive socio-economic advancement for women.
Speaking on inclusive development, Mrs. Susan Umoh, a gender rights consultant, acknowledged the NDDC’s proactive role in supporting women’s empowerment and emphasized the indispensable role women play in societal and economic stability. She specifically called on skilled women to serve as mentors, reinforcing a spirit of collaboration and solidarity.
Mr. Aniekeme Finbar, a seasoned strategist and brand consultant, highlighted that access to information is a strategic enabler of women’s empowerment. He called on participants to prioritize continuous learning and civic engagement, positioning education and awareness as the cornerstones of leadership and societal impact.
