President Bola Tinubu assured of supporting efforts towards increasing women's participation in governance while speaking at the All Progressives Congress, APC National Caucus meeting at State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
In attendance were the Vice President Kashim Shettima; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; governors on the platform of APC; and members of the Federal Executive Council, among whom was the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim. The meeting ensured alignment in party strategies and policies in preparation for the NEC meeting.
He urged the National Assembly, during his address, for sponsoring a constitutional amendment to increase women’s representation and assured them that his administration would support such an initiative.
He also hailed efforts by the Niger State Government in promoting women to strategic leadership positions and called on other states to consider similar approaches.
Speaking on governance at the local level, the President called on state governors to be more interested in grassroots development and to ensure that the programmes and policies of the government were effectively transferred to communities.
In a post-meeting statement, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development expressed appreciation for the President's support for gender inclusion while stating his role in advancing women's participation in national development.
