As per information detailed in the most recent Hurun Report, the quantity of self-made billionaires who are women has reached an all-time high of 150 individuals in 2026.
To put this in context, the current quantity of women self-made billionaires is two times higher than it was ten years ago. This new female billionaire community has increased its wealth by more than 52 percent since three years ago, totaling approximately $470 billion.
The increase in the number of female billionaires has been accomplished in a variety of different ways. However, there seems to be quite a significant trend that can link many of the women who are now becoming self-made billionaires to industries such as artificial intelligence, healthcare, and manufacturing, where they have successfully created and have grown very large businesses.
The top country globally for female self-made billionaires is China, with 78 women; 60 of their new female self-made billionaires are recorded for this year alone.
The previous number was 28 as recorded by the report, as it's based on previous averages over 15 years, and so this new record of 150 self-made female billionaires is the highest ever recorded in the history. Approximately 80 percent of the women who are now included in this year's Hurun list were not included in last year's Hurun list at all.
The threshold for entry has also risen. The minimum amount of wealth required to be among the top 10 has risen from $2.4 billion in 2011 to $7.5 billion in 2026.
Rupert Hoogewerf, chairman and chief researcher of Hurun Report, said the increase is due to various factors. These include the internationalization of Chinese business groups, the development of artificial intelligence technology, and the development of the healthcare industry.
Also, 63 percent of the self-made women billionaires have built their fortunes from listed companies. The average age of the women billionaires is 61 years. It is lower than the average age of the Hurun Global Rich List. In terms of the business models of the women billionaires, 53 percent sell to businesses, while 47 percent sell to consumers.
In terms of physical products and software sectors, 62 percent of the women billionaires are engaged in physical products, while 38 percent are engaged in the sector.
