Pomelo Care was founded in 2021 to provide virtual maternity care services that complement conventional maternity services.
The organization has, however, extended its coverage from maternity care to supporting various health needs associated with women and children over the years. In a move to raise funds for its expansion, Pomelo Care raised $92 million for its Series C round of funding to give it a valuation of $1.7 billion.
The Series C round was participated in by Stripes, followed by others like Andreessen Horowitz, PLUS Capital, Atomico, BoxGroup, and SV Angel. Pomelo Care had previously raised $46 million in its Series B round in June 2024 and has a cumulative fund raiser of about $171 million at this point.
The offered services are now extended to cover reproductive health, pregnancy, pediatrics, hormonal health, as well as peri-menopause and menopause-related care. The firm also assists with preventive long-term care for various conditions.
The firm’s CEO, Marta Bralic Kerns, stated that the firm was created in a bid to enhance health outcomes for mothers in the USA, and the investment will help the firm achieve the same for all female and pediatric populations throughout their lifespan.
In 2024, Pomelo Care is a Fierce 15 award recipient and partners with both healthcare plans and employers, servicing more than 25 million members.
The company delivers 24/7 virtual healthcare services via a multispecialty clinical team enabled by data science to help detect risks early in order to constantly monitor and close gaps in healthcare. Pomelo Care collaborates with practices and physical providers for patient support.
According to the company, its virtual maternity care program is linked with decreases in preterm deliveries, admissions to the neonatal intensive care units, and healthcare expenditures.
Additionally, there has been presentation of peer-reviewed outcomes based on claims data at national scientific and/or medical meetings regarding outcomes such as NICU stay, preterm birth rate, emergency room use, and prenatal depression screening and follow-up.
Additionally, there is Pomelo Care offering a midlife care program centered on the associated challenges of perimenopause and menopause regarding hormones, metabolism, and mental wellness.
On the growth of the company, Ron Shah, a partner with Stripes, said that Pomelo Care has attained national scope through its association with commercial and Medicaid health insurance plans in the United States. Ron further observed that Pomelo Care's system has recorded impressive patient satisfaction and outcomes.
