Sophia Kanavos Create Spaces to Celebrate Women in Business

  • Sophia Kanavos and her mother, Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, wanted to recognize International Women's Day across their real estate portfolio
  • Their aim was to build spaces of business for women that were both significant and reachable

For Sophia Kanavos and her mother, Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, who were eager to observe International Women’s Day at their various real estate properties, it certainly wasn’t the beginning of an organization.

At the heart of the event was filling a need the women saw: communities for women who are part of the world of business that offered a level of meaning as well as accessibility. And from where they met over coffee, the Women’s Power Series has taken off.

The event began with a sold-out conference in Miami and continued on as a positive experience for all attendees in New York City.

The platform has now aggregated women from different sectors to learn from each other and be inspired by successful women to carve out strategies for achieving success in entrepreneurship and business.

The events highlight empowerment without boundaries, with recognition of successes and strength and comprehending knowledge and understanding among women.

Typical conferences could be quite pricey for new talent. The series is quite different. The price of the event varies from $250 to $1,500. Discounts and sponsorships have been put in place for students. Kanavos said, “It’s about making sure that everybody has a seat at the table. We’re hoping to make sure that every voice is heard, from the student to the CEO.”

Though the Women’s Power Series has become an identifying project for Dayssi, she is further forging ahead with her career in real estate and hospitality.

Currently, she is an acquisitions and developments associate for Flag Luxury Group, which involves working on boutique hotels, hospitality concepts, and retail projects for Miami, Orlando, Las Vegas, and New York City markets.

She graduated from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University and was formerly an origination member for Starwood Capital Group at Starwood Property Trust.
