South Korea's Gyeonggi-do plans to keep working on the "Eco-Friendly Agricultural Products Support Program for Pregnant Women" in 2026, in line with the health promotion of new and expecting mothers.
According to the provincial government, allocation for this initiative has been the total budget of 11.5 billion won. Under the program, 48000 pregnant women and new mothers in 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do will receive eco-friendly agricultural products valued at 240000 won per person annually.
Those eligible are women who are currently pregnant on the date of application, and also those who have given birth on or after January 1, 2025.
After choosing the recipients, the latter will be asked to contribute 20% of the expenses. Subsequently, they will be provided with a selection of safe and fresh environmentally friendly agricultural items.
Key Highlight:
In relation to the items that the program offers, there are organic fruits and vegetables, pesticide-free produce, organic processed food, products certified for animal welfare, and antibiotic-free livestock products.
The purpose of the initiative is to enhance the availability of products that are friendly to the environment for pregnant women and new mothers while at the same time promoting the intake of agricultural products that are environmentally sustainable.
The application for this program must be submitted at the Ecoemall website from June 17 to June 30. Besides online applications, eligible persons can also submit their application by doing a face to face visit at their nearest administrative welfare center during the application period.
The provincial government announced it is going to make the recipient list in July. After the finalization of the selection, the deliveries of eco-friendly agricultural products will start on July 20 and last until December 15.
The Eco-Friendly Agricultural Products Support Program for Pregnant Women aims at helping women during their pregnancy and their unborn babies to stay safe by food. Officials said the program is one of their contributions to building a healthier environment for childbirth and childrearing.
The program will also help more widespread use of green farming by boosting sales of environmentally friendly products. Representatives said that raising consumer demand for these products can help agriculture based on eco-friendliness go viral besides the farmers getting benefits through stable sales outlets.
Inviting the public to buy and consume products of green farming will help the initiative work towards the development of a way of farming that is in harmony with nature in the province. On the other hand, it aims at food products that are made in a way that is friendly to the environment to be available for women who are pregnant and have just given birth.
The province is hopeful that this initiative will not only be able to save the lives of mothers and children but will also bring new advances to the sector of eco-friendly agriculture and at the same time, help farmers become economically stable through the growing demand for green agricultural products.
