Spiro and Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners (ESP) have rolled out the ‘Women in E-Mobility’ program in Rwanda, which involves educating women about riding electric motorcycles, developing their entrepreneurial skills and offering finance for vehicles in order to empower them to join the transport and logistics sectors.
The project has been initiated in October 2026 with a participation of 50 women. It is expected that further on, 500 women from Rwanda will be involved in this process during the first phase, with plans to expand the project into other African nations in the coming years. The target is to educate 5,000 women by 2030. Spiro and ESP’s goal is to scale the program to other parts of Africa, where Spiro operates, between 2027 and 2030.
Key Highlights:
Under the programme, the participants will be trained on motorcycle riding and also be educated about road safety. The participants will also learn financial literacy and digital skills, supporting them to venture into self-employment and business management.
This initiative combines Sipro’s electric mobility infrastructure and entrepreneurship development competencies of ESP. The purpose of ESP is to help women entrepreneurs to have better access to funding and business growth. This pilot program will evaluate the progress made, revenue generation, and business performance.
The program will link up women to ride-hailing, delivery and logistics services in order to enable them to access customers for reliable revenue streams. It also tackles the cost issue and the difficulties linked with electric motorcycle access.
The participants will be provided with financing options such as lease-to-purchase options for Spiro motorcycles, which will enable them to avoid a huge financial burden. Furthermore, participants will have the possibility to utilize the battery-swap technology developed by Spiro that will allow them to exchange their discharged batteries with charged ones instead of charging them.
The importance of the initiative is largely linked between the economic activity of women and e-mobility transition. Thus, through providing training as well as financing options and vehicle access, the programme will be able to overcome several obstacles that may prevent women from taking part in transport-related businesses. The development plans of the initiative may result in the emergence of new job opportunities and increase the number of women involved in the African e-mobility market.
In order to expand the programme, Spiro and ESP need the involvement of development finance institutions, impact investors, governments, and businesses. The collaboration between the partners is believed to help improve the arrangements with respect to financing, increase access to skills training, and link the participants with employers or customers. This approach will assist the partners in developing a programme aimed at linking skill development of women with necessary infrastructure, financing and market access in electric mobility sector.
