During a panel hosted by Inspiring Women in Hospitality at CBREs’ Henrietta House recently, four distinguished female hoteliers shared insights on the value of personal authenticity in shaping successful hospitality careers. The discussion also highlighted that, despite proven business benefits of diverse leadership, cultural norms often discourage women from fully expressing their perspective or advancing their profiles in the workplace.
Leadership diversity remains a gap in hospitality, with limited female representations in senior and C-Suite positions. A recent panel underscores the need for women to cultivate confidence and clarity in navigating their careers. It laid emphasis on creating one’s professional brand to influence visibility.
Kristen Kozlowski, Head of Strategy and Business Development at PineBridge Benson Elliot, emphasized that authenticity enables professionals to leverage their strengthens while acknowledging areas for growth. She also shared that her professional maturity has allowed her to effectively express both knowledge and her boundaries, fostering greater transparency and trust.
Soraya Shamji, Relationship Director at Leumi U.K., highlighted the importance of genuine engagement and bringing authenticity into workplace building professional collaborations.
Maria Ashton, VP of Luxury Brands for North, Central, and Eastern Europe at Accor, stressed interactions rely on mutual exchange and that disciplined listening can elevate partnership, enhance deal quality, and solidly long-term relationships.
As Associate Director of Hotel Capital Markets at CBRE, Ellina Kraynik, noted that she regularly finds herself as the only woman in discussions with hotel investors, highlighting the gender imbalance in the hospitality industry. The panelists noted that showing conviction should begin during the interview stage. A more direct approach while answering the tough questions with simplicity and honesty is the key.
