For the Women Peace and Protection Joint Programme II Program in Somalia, UN Women is presently soliciting proposals to support women’s leadership and engagement in peace processes, governance and security by creating an environment to support women's protection.
This second phase of the Women Peace and Protection Joint Programme will build upon the success of the previous program and will continue to advance women’s involvement in peacebuilding activities through promoting the role and participation of women leaders in decision making at all levels of government, and through providing services to ensure the protection of women engaged in peace processes, creating inclusive governance and a reformed security sector.
The Women Peace and Protection Joint Programme II also support the implementation of the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security in Somalia.
Welcome to apply for funding to support projects that encourage increased women's engagement in peace processes and housing programs; projects supporting the formation of strong, resilient communities; and projects that promote inclusive governance. Funding for this program will be within a range of $100,000-$150,000 for each project funded.
The Programme also aims to build the capacity of institutions to engage in gender-sensitive governance, decision-making and the safeguarding of women and girls.
Some of the specific objectives of the Programme are the empowerment of women-led organisations; increasing youth participation in peacebuilding initiatives; establishing early warning systems to prevent conflict and sexual violence; and addressing social norms that are harmful.
UN Women are seeking to collaborate with organisations which have at least a 7-year footprint in Somalia and extensive experience in areas such as gender analysis, conflict prevention, inclusive governance, mediation, trauma recovery and economic empowerment for women.
This provides a fantastic opportunity for organisations that have a proven history of engaging with policy networks while delivering projects at the grassroots, particularly in the areas of women’s rights, peace tolerance and reconciliation, security, and security sector reform etc.
