Westpac Fiji Launches Women & Girls Education Grants 2026

Westpac Fiji has re-launched its Westpac Women and Girls Education Grants (WGEG) for 2024 (WGEG); a continuation of their long-standing commitment to helping empower Fijian Women & Girls with access to education and the opportunity to achieve success in life.

The Introduction of WGEG started back in 2002 and has assisted over 400 women to achieve their professional goals by providing over $300K worth of educational grants since then.

Each year WGEG provides (30) education grants to 30 women across Fiji helping them to realise their educational and life goals. Primary school students receive $500, secondary school students receive $1,000 and tertiary education students receive $2,500. The theme for WGEN 2026 will be "Balance the Scales; Empowering Fijian Women & Girls through Education."

According to Shane Smith, the Chief Executive for Westpac Fiji, he believes that contributing towards women and girls will deliver long-term advantages for Fiji, as well as for its communities.

Shane explained that, for example, one successful applicant, Avisha Narayan, from Sabeto, and a current student studying Bachelor of Science at university, used her grant money to pay for tuition fees and fulfill her dreams by having an outlet to express her.

Grant applications will also be accepted for the 2026 program in addition to providing posters that remind girls of their right to a safe and fair world for primary school children, there will also be an opportunity for secondary school students to submit an essay, poster or video addressing what "Balance the Scales" means in their local community.
