  • The goal of the Equity 2030 Alliance is to reduce the gender equity gap globally

As one of the first Sri Lankan organizations to join the global effort to close the gender equity gap, the Women's International Foundation (WIF) has been formally acknowledged and inducted into the UNFPA Equity 2030 Alliance.

The Equity 2030 Alliance is an international initiative spearheaded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) that advocates for gender-inclusive innovation as a normative practice. It brings together global disruptors, thought leaders, and changemakers to collaboratively develop solutions that represent the various needs and goals of people of all genders. The alliance drives its mission through data-driven strategies, inclusive policy development, and cross-sector collaboration.

The addition of WIF to this alliance represents a significant turning point in its development. Using grassroots activism and powerful national campaigns, WIF has been at the forefront of combating systemic injustices and conventional gender norms since its founding on the tenets of equity, empowerment, and innovation.

This worldwide recognition is largely due to WIF's signature initiative, the "Dear Father" campaign and its innovative Father's Movement. This program directly addresses time poverty and the unequal burden of caregiving placed on women by enlisting men as active allies. It is altering Sri Lankan perceptions of fatherhood, caregiving, and gender roles.

WIF Founder and Chairperson Seroshi Nandasiri, an Eisenhower Fellow, stated, "This UNFPA recognition is not just a milestone—it's a mandate to grow our work, increase our impact, and collaborate globally to rewrite the future for women and girls." "We're closing the gender gap by altering social norms and mindsets in addition to policies."

Through the Eisenhower Fellowships network, which connected Seroshi with the UNFPA headquarters in New York, WIF was able to join the Equity 2030 Alliance. The foundation thanked all of its current partners and Eisenhower Fellowships for this breakthrough.

WIF is still dedicated to promoting women's economic empowerment in addition to its social advocacy. Ongoing initiatives that foster entrepreneurship, increase MSME capacity, and raise awareness of gender equality reflect this. WIF's membership in the Equity 2030 Alliance creates new chances for information sharing, solution exchange, and international cooperation given its increasing regional partnerships and presence throughout Sri Lanka.
