Long before she ever wore a white coat or led a fertility clinic, a young girl sat with a medical book in her lap, captivated by the mysteries of the female body. At school, while classmates traded secrets about weekend plans, she answered questions about periods, hormones, and birth control, an 11-year-old accidentally becoming everyone’s little doctor. That spark of curiosity didn’t just shape her imagination; it shaped her purpose.
Today, that girl is Dr Debbie Cassis, Medical Director of Hestia Fertility, and a new voice leading a quiet transformation in reproductive medicine in Mexico. She belongs to a generation of women physicians who stepped into a field once dominated by men, not just to take their place, but to reshape how women are cared for. As both a fertility specialist and someone who has walked the journey herself, she brings something medicine alone cannot teach: lived empathy.
At Hestia, she has built a space where advanced science meets emotional understanding, where patients are informed, supported, and seen. With transparent care, a cutting-edge lab, and a patient-first philosophy, she is redefining what compassionate fertility treatment looks like in Mexico.
What core clinical expertise have you developed as a fertility specialist over the years?
Throughout my medical journey, I have been fortunate to train and collaborate with outstanding professionals and institutions that shaped both my scientific foundation and my human approach to care. Over the years, my clinical expertise has centered on reproductive medicine, fertility preservation, and advanced assisted reproduction techniques such as in vitro fertilization.
I have also developed a deep focus on personalized fertility care, understanding that every woman’s body and story are unique. This has led me to integrate comprehensive diagnostics, hormonal balance management, and minimally invasive gynecologic procedures as part of a complete approach to reproductive health.
Beyond science, my work has always been guided by empathy, ensuring that each patient feels informed, supported, and empowered in every decision. Having experienced infertility firsthand has also fuelled this dream of voicing my truth to help others through these incredibly difficult journeys.
Introduce us to Hestia Fertility. What key roles and responsibilities do you shoulder as the Medical Director of the clinic?
Hestia Fertility was created from a very simple belief: every dream of building a family deserves not just world-class science, but genuine compassion. Inspired by my love for Greek mythology, I named the clinic after Hestia, the quiet goddess of warmth, home, and family.
As Medical Director, I ensure this philosophy is present in everything we do. I oversee our clinical protocols, personalize treatment plans, and ensure our technology and practices reflect the highest global standards. Equally important, I lead with empathy, making sure our patients feel heard, understood, and supported through one of the most emotional journeys of their lives. My role isn’t only medical; it’s to honor the trust families place in us every day.
What are some pressing challenges that you encounter in your current role? How do you overcome them effectively?
One of the greatest challenges in reproductive medicine and in leadership is finding a balance between the emotional and the scientific. Every day, I meet women and couples carrying immense hope, fear, and expectation. As a Medical Director, my role is to hold that space with both empathy and clarity, ensuring that our decisions are guided by scientific evidence, but also by genuine human connection.
I simply give the care, honesty, and compassion I would want if I were in my patient’s place as a doctor, a woman, and a human being. That philosophy guides how I treat my patients, my team, and everyone in my life
Another challenge is staying ahead of rapid scientific and technological advancements. Fertility medicine evolves constantly, and leading a team means creating an environment of continuous learning, one where innovation and compassion grow together. I also recognize the importance of emotional sustainability for our clinical staff.
How do you see integration of digital innovation shaping the future of fertility treatments and women’s reproductive healthcare?
Digital innovation is transforming reproductive medicine in extraordinary ways. Today, technology allows us to make fertility care more personalized, precise, and accessible than ever before. Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, and advanced laboratory automation are helping us predict ovarian response, improve embryo selection, and optimize treatment outcomes with remarkable accuracy.
But beyond technology itself, what excites me most is how these tools can humanize the experience. Digital platforms allow us to accompany patients more closely, offering real-time communication, emotional support, and education throughout their journey. This connection helps women feel informed, empowered, and truly seen.
At Hestia Fertility, we believe the future of reproductive healthcare lies in the harmony between innovation and empathy. Technology enhances this ability to care.
Looking back on your career, which milestones are you most proud of? What is your ‘success mantra’?
Looking back, what makes me proud isn’t just milestones, it’s the lives changed, the families built, and the hope restored. One of my greatest achievements has been creating Hestia Fertility, a clinic built on transparency, empathy, and clarity, led by a team of remarkable women. We have made quality fertility care more accessible.
A defining turning point in my journey was choosing to leave comfortable positions where growth was limited. Twice, I walked away without a safety net because staying meant compromising my purpose. Those moments of uncertainty ultimately led to Hestia.
Today, I am proud not only of what we’ve built, but of mentoring young physicians who lead with both skill and heart. For me, success is simple: lead with empathy, honor trust, and touch lives.
