5 Must-know Feminist Icons Who Fought for an Equitable Future

Equitable rights for women have been an evolving phenomenon over the years. Advancement in said field has been fulfilled through the determination and audacity of strong activists. For years education, politics, human basic rights and opportunities were denied to a majority of women. Society often expected women to be silent and do household chores. However, many brave women decided to put their foot down and protest against this oppression. They challenged the order that prompted a sea change in women’s rights.

Women used advocacy by delivering speeches and publishing written work to express their defiance against social norms and unjust laws. The group’s social activities raised awareness about gender discrimination while compelling communities to reconsider the value of justice and equality. The group achieved its major goals by successfully campaigning for women to gain voting rights and access to education, thereby increasing their involvement in social and political activities.

This article highlights five great feminist who made significant efforts to achieve women rights: Mary Wollstonecraft, Emmeline Pankhurst, Sojourner Truth, Simone de Beauvoir and Betty Friedan.
