Access Bank Ghana Appoints Pearl Nkrumah as First Female MD

  • Access Bank Ghana has named Pearl Nkrumah as its new Managing Director, effective October 1, 2025
  • She is the first female to become the bank's leader since the bank's operations commenced in Ghana
  • The appointment has been endorsed by the Board of Directors and the Bank of Ghana

 

Effective from October 1, 2025, Pearl Nkrumah has been appointed as Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana, making her the first female to hold the position since Access Bank commenced operations in Ghana.

Her appointment is approved by the Board of Directors and was made in accordance with Bank of Ghana regulatory approval. She takes over from the previous Managing Director, Olumide Olatunji, who has served for the past seven years and will be taking up an executive position at the parent company of Access Bank, Nigeria.

Pearl is taking up her new position with more than 25 years of experience in financial services spanning retail and digital banking, commercial banking, risk management, and digital transformation.

Prior to her new role, Pearl was the Executive Director for Retail and Digital Banking at Access Bank Ghana, where she conducted oversight of retail banking businesses across 15 Access Africa subsidiaries outside Nigeria. She is also currently the Chairperson of the Council of the Ghana Stock Exchange on behalf of listed companies.

Prior to joining Access Bank in 2022, she held various senior management roles in Stanbic Bank since 2012 and 14 years at Standard Chartered Bank where she started her career in 1998.

In commenting on the appointment, Access Bank Ghana Board of Directors Chairperson Ama Bawuah said:

Her appointment is a reflection of Access Bank's passion for diversity and recognition of her leadership capabilities and excellent past performance. We have no uncertainty she will continue to drive growth and on top of that build on the legacy of her predecessor. We also use this moment to add a thank you to Olumide Olatunji for his great leadership and service over the last few years."

In her testimony, Pearl testified, it is an honor to lead Access Bank Ghana during these times of great need. Along with the Board, management, and employees, we will continue to create value for customers, shareholders, and society, and propel the vision of the bank to become the world's most respected African bank and a contributor to national development.

Her appointment is one part of the bank's overall succession planning and is an indicator of its dedication to strengthening leadership and diversity and inclusion.
