  • AwakenAngels is Ireland's first women-led investment group and has helped companies raise over £4 million
  • The update was part of a recent joint report with AwakenHub, which supports women-led startups in Ireland

A new economic impact report shows that AwakenAngels, Ireland's first women-led investment syndicate, has helped its portfolio companies secure more than £4 million in funding.

Founded in 2023 to boost investment prospects for women, the milestone were announced in a joint report with its sister organisation, AwakenHub - an all-island network which supports and develops women-led startups.

Titled "Breaking Barriers. Backing Women. Building Businesses", this report highlights how both organisations have built a growing funding and support ecosystem for women founders and investors across Ireland.

AwakenAngels invests in Ireland-based companies, with a minimum of one woman founder holding at least 20 percent equity. Companies from any sector are welcome, and it is paramount that all founders are members of AwakenHub to ensure the community is supportive and investment-ready.

To date, the syndicate has backed eight portfolio companies — Yavia, Movetru, ITUS Secure Technologies, KinetikIQ, Konree Innovation, Eve Mobility, Kowroo and BiaSol — collectively raising in excess of £4 million. Three further deals are presently in due diligence.

The membership of AwakenAngels has doubled to 118 investors, of which 90 percent are women, according to the report. It also added thirteen experienced deal leaders to manage an expanding portfolio.

The AwakenAngels Investor Academy is a CPD-accredited training program that has trained 75 new investors, with 35 more participants signed up this month.

Two all-island initiatives supported by InterTradeIreland's Shared Island programme have also helped strengthen the network of women investing in women.

Co-founder and CEO Clare McGee said the findings reflect a marked shift in Ireland's investment landscape, with more women founders and investors taking an active part in funding networks that weren't available previously.

She then invited women founders and investors to join AwakenHub, highlighting their future plans, one of which is an upcoming trade mission to the United States.
