According to an announcement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, China will host the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Beijing.
This meeting signifies China's intention to partner with the world on women's advancement to also be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women that was held in Beijing in 1995. This conference inspired the world agenda on gender equality.
According to the ministry's spokesperson Guo Jiakun in a press conference, “the meeting comes at a time in which there are only five years to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the United Nations, and that the development of women is currently being challenged with several opportunities."
Advocacy as well as concrete actions is both stressed by China in advancing gender equality and women's development, he added.
Last week, the nation published a white paper describing its strategy, principles, and actions to promote gender equality and women's development in the new era.
It also mentioned China's achievements and input of Chinese women and reiterated China's determination to make contributions to global efforts in promoting women's development.
