Developing countries face an annual difference of financing of approximately US $ 420 billion to meet gender equality goals described in sustainable development objectives (SDGs).
At the fourth International Conference on Development Financing (FFD4) in Seville, Spain, UN women received the adoption of consensus from Sevilla's commitment, reaffirming the global commitment to inclusive and sustainable development. Despite a challenging global context, the agreement marks progress in recognizing gender equality as a central element of financing strategies.
UN women emphasized that the FFD4 has a vital opportunity to support the impulse to finance gender equality - now widely understood as essential for sustainable development and strong and inclusive economies. It takes a decade of consistent and directed investment to close gender gaps, expand opportunities and ensure that no one is left behind.
The organization urged financial governments and institutions to translate commitments to long -term tangible investments, especially for more needy women and girls. The current deficit reflects the chronic sub-finance of women's rights and services, with most financing ignoring the poorest countries for most low-income women, resources are more urgently necessary.
Although gender responsive budget is gaining strength, only one in four countries have mechanisms to accompany how public funds are allocated to gender equality. Without such data, achieving national development goals remain difficult.
"We cannot close gender gaps with budgets that have no gender lens," said Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, UN executive director. She emphasized that governments should move gender equality from budget margins to the Public Policy Center - supported by resources, reforms, and leadership that see women as the future, not a cost.
UN women have warned that persistent sub -coating is diminishing the progress of gender equality, women's rights and the 2030 agenda. As the FFD4 concludes, they asked the world leaders to correspond to political will with sustained, transparent funding, and responsible to close the $ 420 billion gap and compromise with half the world's population.
