Egypt has advanced ten places in the latest rankings of the World Bank report on Women, Business, and the Law 2026. The country’s ranking has increased from 38.75 to 48.50 due to several initiatives recently undertaken for women in the labor force.

Highlighted during a policy workshop in Cairo organized by the National Council for Women, the update is a reflection of the nation’s reforms anchored in constitutional principles of equality and inclusivity.

Some important clauses of the Labour Law No. 14 of 2025 are extension of maternity leave to four months, protection of jobs during pregnancy and maternity leave, and provision of childcare facilities where there are more than one hundred female workers.

Furthermore, flexibility in work is allowed, as well as equal rights regarding pay, promotion, training, and job opportunities for both males and females. Some of the pending reforms mentioned by government representatives include a domestic work law for regulating the sector, with training and proper contracts for the workers.

Authorities are also advancing a national plan aimed at increasing women’s workforce participation which helps in reducing joblessness and foster entrepreneurial growth. The conference saw participation from the World Bank Group officials and development experts, underscoring ongoing collaboration between national and global stakeholders to advance women’s economic inclusion.
