You may have heard Ruaa Kayy before you know her name.
Her voice appeared alongside Mahmood and Raghav Chaitanya on “Mashooqa,” from Pritam’s upcoming soundtrack for Cocktail 2. She lent her voice to “Jee Lenge” from the Prime Video series Lukkhe, and collaborated with Arijit Singh and RUTVXK on “Laiyaan.” But with her new independent single, “Hush Hush,” the singer-songwriter, composer and vocal producer is asking listeners to meet the person behind those moments.
Performed, composed and written by Harjot Kaur, who performs as Ruaa Kayy “Hush Hush” is an intimate confession disguised as a late-night pop song. It is about the kind of love that is obvious in every expression, every pause and every lingering look—but still somehow impossible to put into words.
“Hush Hush is that song for me when your heart has already said everything,” says Ruaa Kayy. “That love for someone is all over your face, but it feels difficult to put it into words.”
Sonically, the track moves through smooth R&B textures while retaining Ruaa Kayy’s Punjabi-Hindi pop identity. It feels close and conversational, as though the listener has walked into a private moment midway through a conversation. There is softness in the song, but not uncertainty; vulnerability, but not helplessness.
“I wanted it to feel intimate, modern and addictive like a late-night conversation,” she adds. “This song feels like the softest side of me, wrapped in confidence. It’s vulnerable without being helpless, playful without trying too hard, and hopefully reminds people that sometimes the loudest confessions are the ones we never actually say out loud.”
Produced by Rutvik Talashilkar, with mixing and mastering by Sunny M.R., the song features keys and synths by ZIA and guitars by Amandeep Singh. The production leaves room for Ruaa Kayy’s vocal to carry the emotional weight, allowing the song to unfold naturally rather than announce itself.
For Ruaa Kayy, “Hush Hush” is not a departure from the artist she has been building. It is a closer look at her. Her journey has taken her from engineering and vocal production to songwriting, composition and performance, often behind the scenes and without the visibility that usually accompanies such credits.
She has contributed to the Brahmāstra score and “Kesariya,” co-written for Jasmine Sandlas and Parineeti Chopra, and worked across sessions connected with Ed Sheeran’s “Heaven,” featuring Jonita Gandhi. Her independent catalogue includes “Gin Gin Taareyy,” “SABR” and “Reh Ja.”
Those experiences have shaped an artist who listens closely to lyrics, to voices, to silence and to the emotional detail inside a song. That sensibility is present throughout “Hush Hush.”
While “Mashooqa,” “Jee Lenge” and “Laiyaan” introduced Ruaa Kayy to wider audiences through some of the year’s most anticipated film, streaming and independent releases, “Hush Hush” is her own introduction. It is less about a big arrival and more about opening the door.
And behind the song is a simple feeling many listeners will recognise: sometimes you have already confessed everything. You just haven’t said it yet.
